Special event at Stanwick Lakes

Thursday, April 12, 2018

An exciting three-year project at Stanwick Lakes, “Settlers of the Nene Valley” started this year. Over the past 5,000 years, the Nene Valley has seen successive settlements by Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and Medieval Settlers.

Who were these Settlers?
Why did they arrive here?
How did they live?

We shall be working with individuals, families, local community & heritage groups and schools to explore, re-create and celebrate the lives of these Settlers as they travelled, settled and traded along the Nene Valley.

Sunday, 20 May

This is an exclusive invitation for members of the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum to join us at one of our opening events.

Join archaeologist Andy Chapman to discover the history of Stanwick Lakes from Neolithic People to a Medieval Hamlet

It is a guided walk around the Stanwick Lakes site, based upon the significant archaeological finds found here in the 1970s-90s. The site has yielded an array of treasures, enabling the story of human activity within the valley over many thousands of years to be told.

A Walk Through Time

The walk will be guided by Andy Chapman - a resident archaeologist on the site in the 1970s-90s

Sunday, 20 May – Meet at 1.15 pm for refreshments in the Visitor Centre, followed by the Walk at 2 pm.

The event is free, but admission is by ticket only. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Tickets can be obtained by email, using this link.

Standard car parking fees will apply.

Further details:

The walk is around one mile long and will take around 1 ¾ hours. Stout shoes are recommended as at times the walk will be over grass. The walk will finish on the west of the site, not at the visitor centre. Please contact us  if you need further information about the walk.

There will also be an opportunity for you to find out more about the “Settlers of the Nene Valley Project” and how you can take part in its activities over the next 3 years.
