Wollaston & Strixton War Memorial stands on the east side of the cemetery in Cobbs Lane. It was dedicated and unveiled by Viscount Althorp 100yrs ago, on 11th June 1921. A Maltese Cross, 15ft high of Weldon stone on an octagonal base of Derbyshire stone, eight panels of Hoptonwood marble fixed around the base, seven bearing the names of the fallen, and the eighth the inscription “Erected in memory of Wollaston and Strixton men who fell in the Great War 1914-1918 Faithful unto death” (see full detail of the inscription below). Out of a population of about 2,400, no fewer than 400 served with the services during WW1
